Drabble #2

Requested by Selfy, Jealous!May lecturing Gil about being a part of the Island Host Club. A follow-up to this!

From the tight grip May had on his collar and the way her eyes were flashing, it would have taken a great miracle to get her to relinquish her victim.

Or a voice of reason.

Thank the gods for Yukika. After five attempts of trying to get the younger girl to see reason, the sixth finally sank in, and May agreed to talk this through with Gilgamesh, rather than throw whales at him (although the thought was tempting).

Hence why the two were now facing each other, one still glaring and the other one still trying to puzzle out exactly why she was so furious. After ten minutes of terse silence (in which the heat of his friend's stare only increased), Gilgamesh finally opened his mouth.

"May-chan--"

"I can't believe you." Far from her usual passionate outbursts, this time her voice was barely at the normal speaking level. "What kind of guy would do something like that?"

Gilgamesh blinked. "Do what?" He asked carefully, knowing from experience that May's hold on her temper wasn't that great; the slightest mistake could set her off. He'd just have to watch what he said.

Unfortunately for the King of Heroes, he'd already committed the mistake. May's hands clenched into fists and her face flushed with anger.

"You're just playing with precious and important feelings!" She yelled, startling some nearby ducks into scurrying for safety. "You don't really care about what a girl feels, and you're... you're being a jerk!!"

As unimpressive as the insult was, it nonetheless had a strange impact coming from May. Until now, she'd only used that word in reference to his older self.

"May-chan, listen--"

She was beyond listening now. "You say a lot of nice things to make girls like you, but you're just lying! No one's gonna be happy if you just tell them things you don't mean! E-even when you're calling me cute, that-- geez, you and Johnny both, always flirting with everybody..."

The blond focused on her face, which seemed to be more pink than red now. She wasn't looking at him, instead staring at a space right by him, and the slight tremor in her voice almost reminded him of...

... She couldn't be.

But...

She's... jealous?

"May-chan," Gilgamesh said for the third time, and this time, she glanced at him. Encouraged by this, he stepped closer and captured her hand in both of his.

"....." The brunette looked down at their hands, then up at his face with an expression that plainly read, This had BETTER be good.

"I would be a poor king if I didn't mean what I said, don't you think?" The little king smiled warmly at his companion. "Surely there's nothing wrong with giving young maidens the attention and compliments they deserve if it's honest praise, hm?"

As he'd expected, May fidgeted and managed to keep a pout from appearing. "I guess," she mumbled, but didn't look any happier.

"Ara, but you're still frowning~" Gilgamesh couldn't resist a teasing smirk, bumping his forehead lightly against hers. "So if that's not the problem, I wonder what's really bothering you, May-chan~!"

As red eyes met brown, the pirate flushed a darker shade of pink and swatted at him with her free hand. "Nothing!! It's absolutely, definitely, 100% nothing!"

"You're blushing over nothing?"

"That's ri-- I'M NOT BLUSHING!!"

From then on, Gilgamesh continued with his host duties, and May dropped by from time to time; "Just to make sure you're not being a jerk," was the only explanation she offered, and he knew better than to question it.

Out loud, anyway.

Not that it stopped him from calling her cute.

For Luna, who requested Dorky!May with Yusuke. o/ Hahaha you may have to humor me on this one, since I'm totally making it up as I go--

The young girl paced before her avidly-listening audience, long ponytail swishing as she spun around and pointed a commanding finger straight in front of her.

"In a battle, you can never forget what you're fighting for! If you lose track of that, and you go in without any idea of what you're doing, you're gonna be in a whole lot of trouble!"

She paused to make sure her trainees were taking in the full effect of her words, nodded to herself in approval, and took a deep breath.

"So remember, when you're out there, fighting with everything you've got, never lose sight of the reason you're there! Yes..." And now she raised her voice dramatically. "You fight for the sake of your mother!!"

The ducklings' enthusiastic chorus of peeps was drowned out by Yusuke's choked "What?!"

"That's right! For Yusuke's sake, you--"

"Hey, May!" The boy cut in, scowling at the lecturer. "What the hell was that?!"

May tilted her head and blinked innocently. "What was what?"

"I said you could train 'em, not make 'em think I'm their goddamned mom!"

"Oh, I didn't do that." The pirate beamed, crouching to give one of the ducklings an affectionate pat. "The way they follow you around, they already made you their mom without me having to say anything at all. It's cute, isn't it?"

Yusuke didn't understand how she could smile so happily while singlehandedly demolishing his masculinity, but chalked it up to the fact that this was May, and anything that annoyed him probably amused her.

"There's nothing cute about it, dammit," he muttered. "How'd you like it if that whale of yours thought it was your baby?"

From the look of horror on the brunette's face, she was experiencing quite the mental image. And, sure enough...

"There wouldn't be a pacifier big enough!"

A long silence. Then, a snort and, finally, a laugh.

"That's what you'd be worried about??"

May huffed, turning her head away. "Well, he's also pretty big, so he might be hard to carry..."

"And some kind of kid protection program might come after a mom who throws her kid at people in a fight," Yusuke couldn't resist teasing.

"They'd go after you first for trying to give your kids away to people," came the sullen retort.

This could have possibly turned violent, had not one of the ducks chosen to nip at the one beside it. The shrill quack of protest from its victim had the humans glancing down at it.

"Bitey, what did I say about messing with your sister?" Yusuke snapped. "Do I need to make Puu watch y--" He stopped abruptly as May started to giggle. "... What?"

"You even sound like a mother!" The giggles turned into full-fledged laughter the more he glared at her.

"... Keep it up and you'll be crying for your mother."

"Heh... you're picking a fight?"

"Well, the little pests might as well learn how to fight by watching, right?"

The two now sported matching mischievous grins as they faced each other and settled into fighting stances.

"It's too bad they're gonna see you lose."

"Don't take my lines."

It was just another day for the Dork Duo.

Basic information, what she can do, which story path she's from... I figured it'd be easier to just make one big post about it.

~ The Basics

Height: 158 cm (about 5'2'')
Weight: 47 kg (about 104 lbs)
Age: The creator once said she was between the ages of 10-14 in the first game. Given her appearance in GGXX, I'd say in the 13-14 category by that point.
Blood type: B
Birthday: May 5 (not her actual birthday, but the day Johnny found her)
Race: Japanese, making her somewhat of an endangered species in the Guilty Gear-verse.
Likes: Johnny
Dislikes: Baldness
Hobbies: Daydreaming of Johnny

Just WHY is she afraid of bald people? This hasn't been stated in canon (unless Accent Core's storymode EVER GETS TRANSLATED), but. We have one (1) doctor Faust. Who was once known as Doctor Baldhead. Great doctor, helped a lot of people, but one girl he was operating on died (or was killed, actually). So he flipped out, went berserk and went on a killing spree until he was put in a mental institution for awhile.

Now. Bald guy going on killing spree + May becoming an orphan + May not remembering anything of her past, but having a seemingly irrational fear of bald people = ?!?! Just my own personal theory, but I'm sticking with it for now.

~ Story Path

May's taken from Story Path 3 (so basically, following the video). Anything that happens in the other two paths are things she won't remember, because technically, they never happened. Her appearances in certain other people's story modes, though, she will remember. FOR example, she'll remember talking to Anji and him getting all "STOP CALLING ME POPS" at her, since their conversation in his path was more-or-less the same as the one in hers.

May was brought to the island right when she was fighting Robo-Ky.

~ Abilities

First and foremost, May is unusually strong for a tiny girl. Secondly, being Japanese, she's got the ki thing going for her, which is some great power in the GG-verse that the Post-War Administration Bureau and That Man are very interested in. Unlike Jam and Baiken and Chipp and Anji, though, she really didn't even know she had it, and apparently starts displaying more of it only when she's really, REALLY angry. Anyway, I already did a post about this and what happens to her in one of I-No's path, so you can check that out over here. Just know that apparently she's not fighting with all of her power, because ftw she doesn't know how to utilize it or that it's even there.

But yes, she's not invulnerable. Not as fast as a lot of the other fighters, and the fact that she's still young means she's going to have a rough time against others with years of fighting experience going for them. It's a given that she's stronger in Gold and Shadow Mode, but she probably won't do that a whole lot here (baaaw whale OVERKILL).

So, SOME of her attacks. She's got an entire Move List, and can do Mist Finer and Jackhound, just like Johnny, but there are some differences. Like... this is Johnny with Mist Finer.

... And this is May.

Sob.

Anyway, her main moves. Other than punching, kicking, etc, because everyone can do that.

Mr. Dolphin Horizontal or Vertical- Summons a dolphin to smash into her opponent either going straight or vertical, which then launches the opponent upwards.
Restive Rolling- May and the anchor rapidly spin into the air and plow into the opponent-- what May calls her Guruguru Attack. XD
Applause for the Victim- In which May calls forth dolphins from a hoop out of gd NOWHERE. She can summon up to three at a time, unless she's in Gold Mode, and then you get SEVEN.
Overhead Kiss- May grabs the opponent and flips backwards for a throw.
Great Yamada Attack- Please prepare for a giant whale to suddenly come diving at you.
Ultimate Whiner- Swinging the anchor in front of her, May will go into a spinning frenzy. Works best if she's super close to her opponent for this.
Super Screaming Ultimate Spinning Whirlwind- ... I really don't have to explain this one, do I?

There are more, but describing them all would take too long.

Instant-Kill: This will... never ever happen here. Because "May And The Jolly Crew" sort of requires her crew to... be there. To make a long story short, she calls her crew and the opponent is then trampled by a bunch of girls and an old lady and instantly destroyed. Best. Attack. EVER.

~ Relationships

Only the canon ones with people who are on the Island now.

Johnny Sfondi- the man who found her when she was orphaned, took her in, and raised her. He's her mentor, her father-figure, and he was just so gd cool that he soon became the center of her universe. May's love for Johnny, in my opinion, is like a little girl announcing that she wants to marry her dad when she grows up, because he's THE BEST PERSON EVER. Not to mention that she lives with a ship full of girls, so he's pretty much the only male she's had constant interaction with. Johnny's the only guy on the ship, and the only other male she's met around her age in canon is Bridget, and Bridget is... well. Baiken is manlier than Bridget. Do I think she'll still be trying to be Johnny's Number One as she gets older? No, not really. I get the feeling she'll always love him as her family and her first love and whatnot, but Johnny has never seen her as a romantic interest (since god she and the others are like his children/little sisters). Nonetheless, I've got no doubt that May will always give her all for Johnny and the fangirling... will probably never end.

Notably, it's usually Johnny who talks sense into her and tries to get her to go about things more delicately. XD

Dizzy- Newest member of the Jellyfish pirates, and any member of the crew automatically qualifies for May's everlasting loyalty. Other than April, she's the crew member who May seems to be closest to, and a source of fascination for her. Her wings are so pretty. *A* Anyway, May's the one who fills Dizzy in on the nuances of being a pirate and has never once seen her as anything other than Dizzy.

Axl Low- They've never met in-game, but Axl and Johnny are drinking buddies, so chances are they've at least heard of each other. On Island, May views him as an older brother figure and thinks he's loads of fun.

Ky Kiske- good-looking blond guy. (I swear she's got a thing for blonds.) HOWEVER, she doesn't like that he was always trying to arrest them for being pirates and wanted criminals (ALTHOUGH THEY'VE HELPED HIM BEFORE), and thus won't hesitate to engage him in a fight if Johnny is being threatened. On Island, they've got a truce, so they pretty much get along.

... That's pretty much it!

May will be involved, but other than that, the sky's the limit. Ten Things You Never Knew About May

... I kind of want to do this for all of the muses after I saw this floating around. XD;; Since it's been awhile since I've written anything. But May's first because djffdkjfdgg there have to be reasons behind some of her quirks. Really.

... Then again, it is Guilty Gear, so. XD

IN OTHER WORDS, IT IS LATE AND I AM TIRED AND THIS IS PROBABLY VERY INCOHERENT BUT OH WELL.

1.) May remembers absolutely nothing about her past. Not who her parents were, not what they looked like, not who (or what) she was before Johnny found her, not a single thing.

All she remembers is the man who had knelt in front of the trembling child, holding out a large hand, and the very first thing he said to her.

("Non, non, a little princess should not be shivering on the ground! From now on, you'll be breathing the air of higher places, hm?")

The next thing he said was her new name and she's been May ever since. It's hardly a wonder that Johnny is everything to her.

2.) Despite not being able to remember anything, May's body holds memories of its own. To this day, she still doesn't understand why bald people yield such a terrified response from her, or how she can tell they're bald at all when sometimes she doesn't even see their heads. All she knows is that when one is close, she gets a chill, her heart begins an erratic beat, and every nerve in her body is screaming at her to run away as far as possible. Never once has it occurred to her that there might be a deeper, underlying cause to this phobia other than just not liking bald people.

3.) May was five when Johnny took her to town to pick out her birthday present.

He knew his initial suspicion about her had been right when the little girl not only turned down teddy bears and lollipops in favor of a giant anchor lying abandoned on a dock-- but then proceeded to easily carry the thing back to the ship when it was more than twice her size and weight.

(It took him a month and a cat to get her to stop sleeping with it.)

4.) She was eight when Johnny saw her making friends with a group of dolphins. He stepped in when he heard her ask if they wanted to come along and be a part of the crew, and very kindly explained that, while he was sure the dolphins would have been happy to join such an esteemed group of air pirates, there really wasn't a way for them to travel comfortably.

At which point May had looked thoughtful and muttered something about believing in the dolphins before Johnny led her back to the ship.

To his great amazement, two days later while in a scuffle with the police, May had called out-- and the dolphins had responded by appearing to assist her without being hindered by the lack of water at all.

("May, princess..."

"Yeah, Johnny?"

"You were responsible for your-- ah, friends appearing out of thin air, were you not?"

"... I guess so."

"And how did you manage such a feat?"

"... I believed in them. They'll do anything for their crew, too."

He didn't bother to ask about the whales.)

5.) When May met Axl, the two hit it off almost immediately and he spent a good three hours or so teaching her all sorts of songs he'd picked up from his (time) travels.

Johnny vowed revenge when he heard the thirty-sixth rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody" break out in the girls' cabin.

6.) She has a weakness for good-looking blond males. She even developed a bit of a crush on Ky Kiske, until he had called Johnny a "law-breaking irresponsible fool with little regard for justice and protocol".

It had then taken the combined forces of Johnny, Leap, and April to keep her from blindsiding Ky with her anchor.

7.) May is very skilled at mimicking voices and mannerisms, and often does this during dinner as entertainment for the crew. She enjoys taking requests-- even if her attempt at impersonating that Chinese cook made her lose her voice for three days.

8.) Sometimes she has nightmares where she's not herself. She looks like May, and sounds like May, but she isn't May anymore. She's some kind of puppet, controlled by some unknown force putting orders in her head. Sending her after people she doesn't know.

And she fights to kill.

Each and every time, May wakes up in a cold sweat with Janice sitting on her chest and meowing anxiously... and each and every time she reassures herself that it was just a dream and that she has never and will never do such horrible things.

... Right?

9.) Whenever they get a new crew member, May is usually the one who helps with the outfitting. She has a surprisingly good eye for what will look best on a person.

(... Bridget, however, was a challenge for an honorary member and took a few hours and some assistance from Dizzy.)

10.) May has been called many things. "Monster" for her unusual strength and whatever magic she has that draws marine life to her-- not a power that falls under any known element. "Brat" for her short stature and reckless and headstrong attitude. "Kid", even if she can hardly claim the innocence of a child but refuses to relinquish her optimistic spirit. "Pitiful human" by those who don't understand that even humans have their own strength. "Filthy pirate" by those who have never lived in a poor village, thus being recipients of whatever spoils the Jellyfish Pirates have managed to get. "Japanese"-- a word Anji had to explain to her, and all May understood was "You're not what you thought you were and this will be trouble for you for as long as you live."

And then there's "Princess", Johnny's personal nickname for her, and "Captain" when the real captain is away; the others look to May as their leader then, wanting to believe in her just as she believed in the dolphins. Wanting to believe that she really is a girl who will do anything for her crew, and she will lead them to victory.

And May doesn't fail them.

Because, in the end, no matter what happened to her, no matter what she's been called, no matter what she is, May will always be May.

- Brainwashed!May a la Baiken's 2nd Ending. So she'd be quiet and polite and not at all like herself-- and then try to kill you orz.

- Summoning screws up and surpraiz she summons monkeys instead of dolphins. D8

- ... For that matter, THE WHALES WON'T DISAPPEAR.

- Looking for the girl!spring to turn back to normal, since turning into a dolphin will cause problems during the next storm.

- Trying to piece together everything she knows about herself and what she's heard, since she's still kind of bothered about what she is without Johnny here to reassure her. And the power thing, sigh.

- Eating the berries one day. Not sure which ones yet, but she's enough of a sped that she'd do it without realizing.

- Stuck singing every single pirate song imaginable.

- Gold or Shadow May. She'd be all horrified, though, because dskjdfjkfd gold May is BLINDING.

It really has nothing to do with May, but stuff to do with Guilty Gear 2 Overture, pertaining to spoilers of Ky and Sin.

.... all I can really say is two things.

... Apparently this happened back when Ky was a commander, too, and he passed the kid on to Sol to take care of. XD;; OH GOD WHO TRUSTS SOL WITH A CHILD?! Everyone seems to think Dizzy is the mother, but I'm thinking it's Solaria. As in, the female Gear in Lightning the Argent.

I don't know enough Japanese to translate the entire cutscene, but it seems Dr. Paradigm wants to... seal/destroy that female Gear and Ky's all "NOOOOOOOO DX" and when he asks why, he's all "I love/loved her D8" aaaaaaaaand then he comes out and explains Sin's his son. Thoughts on May's potential

Okay, first of all, have a youtube video. 8D This is one of I-No's endings and relevant because um. Well. Whoops, kidnapped May.

We know May's strong for a kid her age/height/weight. And several of the Guilty Gear characters (Justice, Ky, I-No, Anji, etc.) have mentioned May's Japanese. For those of you who've never played the game, you're probably all "So what, lots of people are Japanese." Well. In Guilty Gear, Justice kind of screwed Japan over during the Crusade and lots of people died, thus making the survivors sort of an endangered species. Sooooo the government decided "LOL SAVE THE ~~WHALES~~ JAPANESE" and built a sort of holding area for them. A Colony, as it were. The Japanese were to stay there for their own protection.

... Haha, yeah right. Anji and Baiken went "NO U" and are wandering free, Chipp still claims to be Japanese (despite being American XD) and May was assumed to have been picked up by Johnny when she was orphaned and spared from "protection". Because, as Ky realizes at one point, "they're gathering the Japanese in one place under the name of security." I'm assuming that's why Johnny never told May about the Japanese and she had to be filled in by Anji.

But moving on to her potential.

... Aww May's so tiny. ;-; Yep, that's from one of I-No's story mode endings. When May fights her because she's hurting Dizzy and, if I-No wins, she says, "It's hard to believe that's a mere fragment of your power... So, shall I squash you now? Hm.... nah. You'll make for excellent research material. My master will surely be pleased."

Now, in this fight, May was frickin' beating up on I-No (and regenerating health lolz but that was just in a final boss sort of way I think--?!)... and that's a FRACTION of her power? And uh That Man seems to be way interested in the Japanese (lol Anji).

What I'm guessing is May has a LOT more power than she realizes because of what she is (could be the Japanese ki that gives her all that strength?), but... like I said, she doesn't know her potential, so she hasn't tapped into it yet. .... I'm a little afraid to see what she'd be capable of at full-strength. ... Possibly because I still can't over the fact that all of the anchor-wielding and dolphin/whale/orca-summoning is just a fraction of her power wtf May.

I know May was a little subdued when she found out what she was and when she was wondering why Johnny hadn't told her/her old family/etc. But as Axl put it on the Island, the Colony's sort of like imprisonment, and who wants to see May stuck in a cage, huh. :( Island-wise, whenever Jen gets back, May will be seeking out Ky to ask him more about the Japanese and if HE knows anything about it. Maybe if she gets to know Sol well enough (like that'll ever happen), she'll bug him, too. Because issues were unresolved when she was brought to the island, it's been bothering her for awhile now. I doubt she'll bring the topic up with Axl again, though, and DEFINITELY NOT WITH DIZZY OR BRIDGET. (God knows Bridget might try to capture her for the bounty XD)

... Will probably wind up ficcing a scenario in which May DOES get captured and taken in for research, 'cause I'm a dork like that.

... AKA this is what happens when Kia is amused by Guilty Gear and has to point out how amazingly awesome the Drama CDs are. And for my own reference as well, because filling stuff in for May is fun and saves me from screwing up, the scripts for all of the Drama CDs are here. As for the CDs...

Guilty Gear X Drama CD Volume 1 (in which May and Johnny break things, there is epic fighting over shiny objects, and Ky Kiske runs. A lot. ~~dear god Ky you don't always have to talk while you run.~~)
Guilty Gear X Drama CD Volume 2 (in which Sol and Axl have a grand bar adventure, places are trashed, Sol and Ky bond while trying to shank each other, Gears become friends and bald doctors cure blindness. The moral of this story: shiny objects are bad. As is fire. But they're both still fun.)
Guilty Gear XX Drama CD ~ Red (in which I-No appears, Sol gets handcuffed, Ky flails at seduction attempts and Ky dies ajkskladsdklsdkl;s .... but on the bright side, then we get treated to Zappa's Happy Fun Time in the Haunted Mansion.)

MOVING ON~ ~~wut I'm totally doing work-like things at work why do you ask D:~~

-Appearance/Clothing-

May looks like your average 15-year-old pirate (yeah, gonna say she's not 16 til May because I couldn't remember if she was 16 or not in GGXX ahaha)! Long brown hair, brown eyes, the usual complicated-that-means-she's-a-Guilty-Gear-character outfit... actually, hers might be one of the simplest? XD But yes, it's pirate-ish. And she's short; she's only 5'2''. At first glance (and second and third and fourth), she really doesn't look like someone capable of swinging a massive anchor around, but that's just May for you.

-Habits/Mannerisms/Body Language-

... May is blunt. Very, VERY blunt. For example, after her run-in with Faust (who is indeed bald under that paper bag) in one of her Story Mode paths, she meets Millia. AND THE VERY FIRST THING SHE SAYS IS "Oh thank God, someone with hair!"

To which Millia replies, "... Hey, you know, there are some things that don't need to be said..."

May's a pretty expressive girl, so you'll know how she feels in general. If she likes you, she'll let you know. If she doesn't, she'll have NO problem with telling you that you suck. :( If she's worried or upset about something, it will be PAINFULLY obvious with how subdued she is.

Habits... is getting into trouble a habit, I wonder. XD Everything she does really IS for Johnny's sake, so don't underestimate her devotion to him and her crew/family. If you're family, you've got May on your side for life.

-Current Residence-

The Lincoln Log Cabin she helped Axl build... so yes, she's sharing cabin space with Axl Low. And Janice the black cat. And the new dingo puppy. If anyone else from the Guilty Gear-verse shows up (who isn't I-No or BALD), May will probably offer them room in the cabin. ESPECIALLY IF IT'S DIZZY OR JOHNNY.

-Typical Daily Routine-

Life on the Mayship was pretty busy, but May's not on it anymore, so chances are she's not quite sure what to do with herself just yet. Waking up at some point, training with the anchor, exploring the island, ~~bugging~~ talking to people, you know. May misses the Jellyfish Pirates and always having that warmth of a close group, so she's still determined to find a way back to them. Or bring them here.

-Favorite Haunts-

The beach/ocean, most definitely. I'll probably never have May get a springs curse, since c'mon. SHE SUMMONS DOLPHINS AND WHALES. SHE'S A PIRATE. Not being able to go into the ocean anymore would be devastating.

I think the Titanic may also be a favorite haunt for her, once she actually investigates it. Yay ship!

-Does she make her own bed?-

... Pft. What's the point of making your bed if you're just going to mess it up by sleeping in it again. :( NOT MAKING IT IS MORE TIME-EFFICIENT.

Background info on your character: Now, children, what happens when you play with fire? You get burnt, right? Now, what happens when you mix science and magic and create Gears, which are more or less living weapons meant to blindly obey their masters and one of the Gears decides "To hell with it" and launches a war against humankind that lasts a hundred years?

Well, basically, you get screwed. But said Gear (known as Justice) was eventually sealed away and the Gears stopped and everyone lived happily ever after.

... In an ideal world.

What ACTUALLY happened was that rumors started spreading that Justice was still alive and well and that there was yet another Commander Gear who could control the other Gears, just like Justice. And there was more fighting. And resolutions. AND MORE FIGHTING. But anyway, this is May's story, so let's focus on that, shall we?

May is a cheerfully spunky girl who, while only weighing a little over a hundred pounds and standing at five feet and two inches, wields a giant anchor. No, I'm serious. She has incredibly strength for such a small girl and that strength is only matched by her spirit and her enthusiasm in everything that she does (which is pretty much whatever she thinks will make Johnny happy). She's of Japanese descent, but remains unaware of it for awhile, for her own protection. Japan was destroyed in the Crusade, making the survivors an endangered species. They were then put into a colony by the government, but May managed to escape that fate, thanks to Johnny.

May was orphaned at an early age and taken in by Johnny, the leader of the Jellyfish Air Pirates. But don't worry, they're not BAD pirates. Think of Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

Now replace Robin Hood with a womanizer and his Merry Men with Midget Maids and you have the Jellyfish Pirates.

Aside from Johnny, eleven of the crew members are young girls (most of whom were orphaned), one is a black cat (female), and they have an older cook (also female). As dubious as this sounds, they're all a good lot, and often help people and villages in need.

The newest member of their crew is Dizzy, who also happens to be the Commander Gear everyone was looking for. But after several events, Ky Kiske handed her over to Johnny and she joined up with the pirates and presumed to be dead to the rest of the world. And they all lived happily ever--

Whoops, not yet. One day, a woman in red crashes into the May Ship (their main flying vessel) and causes some damage. May is infuriated (quite righteously, I might add) and they fight. But the woman (I-No) isn't here to fight, no. She's here to... push Dizzy over the side of the ship.

... Yeah, I sort of blinked at that, too. Why must evil women be so complicated.

Anyway, May embarks on a journey to get her friend back, fighting her way through possessed Australians, bald men and overprotective Gears (and learning from Anji that she's apparently one of the few Japanese survivors) until she fights I-No again, rescues Dizzy, and returns to the May ship, triumphant. And they all lived happily--

Not. ... And then she has to deal with Robo-Ky and her past, but that comes later.

More personality time! May loves Johnny; he's the one who found her, who raised her, who gave her a family and a reason to fight. Everything she does is for his sake. She's pretty eccentric for a second-in-command pirate girl. How so? Well, for starters, she has a highly irrational fear of bald people. As in.... she can sense them with their heads covered or even from a distance. She considers herself an adult although she generally acts like a highly excitable child and... she's actually a skilled fighter. As mentioned before, she fights with a giant anchor. And dolphins. AND A GIANT PINK WHALE. Do not ask me to even try to explain how that works. Of course, May's quick temper and her bad habit of never thinking before she opens her mouth often get her into trouble... but she more than makes up for her flaws by being an incredibly loyal friend, a brave leader to the other pirates when Johnny's not there, and a kind person in general. Her crew is her family. Anyone who messes with them will be anchor-whapped and sent flying. And trust me, May is more than capable of being serious when the situation calls for it.

It's just more fun to be a dork and slack off on duties and get into adventures, though.

Also, what they were doing when they got pulled to the island, any relations with anyone else? Etc): She was about to talk to Johnny about her past when Robo-Ky showed up and May lost her temper.

... And now she's on an island. D:

People-wise, she's never met Bridget and... uh. Well, Ky has had interaction with the Jellyfish Pirates before, so assuming May at least knows of him.

And now I'm here and there's no Johnny or Dizzy or May Ship... just Janis. How mean! You dragged a cat into this, too! Why am I on an island, anyway? I didn't think policemen could do that... and where did he go??

Aaaaaagh! I bet he works for a bald person!! Probably that creepy doctor! Just thinking about him gives me goosebumps.... ack, no, May! You can't lose heart now! Ohhhh, when I find that cop, he'll wish he'd never heard of the Jellyfish Pirates! Just you wait, Mr. Bzzzt, I'm going to show you just what happens when you mess with May!

Don't worry, Janis... you're my crew! I won't let anything happen to you, so just stay close to me, okay? There are a lot of weird things here, aren't there? But you don't have to be afraid! We're the brave and powerful Jellyfish Pirates and we're not gonna let anything beat us! Not crazy people or bald people or even cops! Besides, we haven't done anything TOO illegal for awhile, and saving Dizzy wouldn't get me arrested, right? Everyone already thinks she's dead, anyway. I didn't do ANYTHING wrong. This time.

Still, I hope we find that guy soon. I was gonna ask Johnny about my family. I mean-- you're all my family, but-- I want to know! E-even if I'm really Japanese, like that man said... Johnny doesn't have to keep it a secret from me! I can take it! I'm not a little girl!

N-no, that can't be it! If I lose faith in Johnny, I lose faith in the Jellyfish Pirates! He's probably got a really good reason, right, Janis? A-and even if he doesn't, that's okay! You're all still my family and that's all that matters! So let's go find that policeman and—
